Westbrick was incorporated into a city 1897. Today, Westbrick is a one of the fastest growing and thriving cities in Brick County has a dense population of 85,000 compacted into 35 square miles and can swell to 155,000 during the working hours. The city of Westbrick has many challenges for firefighters including the historic downtown area with building from the turn of the 19th century along with modern high rises, shopping outlets, historic uptown neighborhoods with tight streets, the Eric S. McDonald Memorial Expressway that goes right through the heart of uptown, and multiple manufacturing and chemical plants that produce numerous hazardous products. The Westbrick Fire Department is a full time career department that responds to over 20,000 calls a year with 165 uniform personnel that provides fire, ems, rescue, hazardous materials response, fire prevention, technical rescue, water rescue and confined space 24 hours of the day, 7 days a weeks and 365 days a year out of five fire stations strategically located through the city to provide the best response times and care to the citizens and visitors of Westbrick.
